The letter, signed by the acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, and the acting Minister of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta, bears witness to Spain's intention to "continue working towards raising culture to the level of its worldwide recognition as a Global Public Good, initiating the creation of the World Forum on Cultural Policies and supporting UNESCO in its objective to place culture in a prominent position among public policies and international cooperation".
MONDIACULT is the leading international meeting on cultural policies. The holding of MONDIACULT 2022 in Mexico in September last year was a new milestone for the consideration of culture as a Global Public Good, a goal that the Government of Spain strongly supports, as evidenced by the recent Cáceres Declaration, promoted by the Spanish Presidency of the European Union Council, and unanimously adopted by the 27 EU Ministers of Culture.
Spain justifies its claim to organise the 2025 edition based on the fact that it is one of the countries with the highest number of declarations and best practices across all three UNESCO Culture Conventions (1972, 2001 and 2003), as well as having fully developed, strengthened, and ratified the values contained therein.
