The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has participated in New York, over the last week, in a broad agenda to prepare for the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, with side events and bilateral meetings, in the final stretch of negotiations to redefine sustainable development financing two months before the meeting in Seville.

The State Secretary for International Cooperation, Eva Granados Galiano, has represented Spain at the opening sessions of the two main events of the week in New York, where she emphasized that "achieving more and better resources for sustainable development is not only a necessary task, it is also urgent. It responds both to the need to care for those in situations of greater vulnerability and to the preservation of the planet. Added to this is the important task of rebuilding trust in multilateralism and international cooperation".

Granados outlined some of Spain's priorities for the Seville Conference, which include renewing "the commitment to allocate 0.7% of Gross National Income to Official Development Assistance, as we have already incorporated in our Law on Cooperation; greater fiscal justice at a global level; strengthening national development banks and impact investment; reinforcing the effectiveness agenda and the localisation of financing; including debt pause clauses in cases of climate emergencies, pandemics, and food crises; gender-responsive financing; as well as a monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability for the implementation of agreements".

Strategic dialogue with UN-Women

Likewise, the State Secretary for International Cooperation chaired the Strategic Dialogue with UN-Women to articulate a global agenda that places gender equality at the center of sustainable development, within the framework of Spain's foreign policy and feminist cooperation.

Spanish Cooperation has been one of the main strategic partners of UN- Women in its conception, strategic development, and funding, with nearly 50 million euros allocated to key initiatives for women's political participation, economic empowerment, and the fight against gender-based violence.
