The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has met today with his Bosnian counterpart, Elmedin Konaković, in Madrid. During the meeting, the Minister reiterated Spain's firm commitment to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Spain supports initiatives aimed at bringing stability to the country, allowing for the opening of EU accession negotiations and the receipt of funds from the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
For this, Bosnia and Herzegovina has the support of Spain, the European Union and other partners in the international community. Minister Albares highlighted the role of the EUFOR-Althea mission, which Spain is participating in to maintain the nation's stability.
Bilateral relations
The Minister underscored the good state of bilateral relations, based on Spain's friendship with and commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Albares thanked Bosnia and Herzegovina for its participation in the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, to take place in Seville from 30 June.
International affairs
On international issues, Albares and Konaković have spoken about Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its impact in the Balkans region, and about the serious humanitarian situation in Gaza.
