Government of Spain regrets end of ceasefire in Yemen

October 11, 2022
The Government of Spain regrets that, despite the efforts by the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and by countries in the region, like Saudi Arabia, the ceasefire in force since 2 April could not be renewed on 2 October.

Spain condemns the obstructive attitude of the Houthi militias and their unreasonable demands to agree to an extension of the ceasefire, which has led to a clear improvement in the living conditions of the Yemeni people since it came into force.

Spain calls on all parties, particularly the Houthi militias, to definitively cease all hostilities and begin a political negotiation process.
