The Ambassador, José Pascual Marco, spoke about the coach and his ability to unite Spain and the United Kingdom through football, a sport that he classified as a “universal language.”

Arteta, for his part, thanked him for the award and spoke some heartfelt words towards Spain, highlighting its rich culture and way of life.

Mikel Arteta has spent most of his career in the United Kingdom, as a player for Glasgow Rangers, Everton and Arsenal, as an assistant coach at Josep Guardiola's Manchester City, and four years as the Gunners' head manager.

The Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic distinguishes people and institutions in recognition of the promotion of international relations and cooperation with other nations.
