Ignacio Campoy Cervera

A candidacy in the service of children


 

Ignacio Campoy holds a PhD in Law from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and was awarded an Extraordinary Doctorate Prize for his thesis on the legal treatment of childhood. He is currently Associate Professor of Philosophy of Law at the same university and serves as a member of the Gregorio Peces-Barba Institute of Human Rights. With over 25 years of academic and research experience, as well as institutional advisory work, his focus has been on developing a human rights model that fully recognises children and adolescents as rights holders.


ACADEMIC

In addition to his lecturing role, Dr Campoy has served as coordinator for several legal clinics of the Master’s Degree in Fundamental Rights and as an instructor, among others, on the International C​​ourse on Human Rights, Childhood and Disability in light of the standards of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.​

AUTHOR

Author of over seventy publications, his work is a reference in the study of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and its integration into the international human rights system.

His main research areas include:​

INTERNATIONAL

He has overseen projects funded by the European Commission and worked with international organisations such as UNICEF and other United Nations agencies.

His work has contributed to:​

  • Assessing public policies in matters related to childhood
  • Promoting the implementation of the convention in different contexts
  • Developing international standards on children’s rights

Particularly noteworthy is his involvement in harmonising the doctrine of the Committee on the Rights of the Child and the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in their joint statementThe rights of children with disabilities (2021), and in the joint statement by UNICEF, UN Women, WHO, ILO, FAO, UNDP, UNFPA, and UNPRPD on violence against girls with disabilities, leading to cross-agency approval of the report Working together to ensure the rights of girls with disabilities to live free from violence (2023).

INSTITUTIONAL ADVISORY WORK

Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Campoy has blended academic rigour with a practical approach, working in partnership with public institutions and social organisations.

Dr. Campoy’s career is a combination of academic specialisation, international experience, and practical application. His approach places the actual effectiveness of the rights recognised in the convention at the forefront, with particular attention to the progressive autonomy of children and young people and to situations of greater vulnerability

His experience in policy assessment, legislative advice, and institutional training gives him the capacity to offer a strong, independent, results-oriented perspective.
