Pascual Ignacio Navarro Ríos holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Murcia University and a Diploma in International Public Law from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne and in International Relations from the London School of Economics. He has been a member of the Diplomatic Corps since 1987. He has served at the Spanish Embassies in Damascus, Copenhagen and Brasilia. He has held the positions of Unit Head of Immigration and Asylum, Assistant Director-General of Cooperation for Central America and Assistant Director-General for Terrorism Affairs. He has also held the positions of Councillor at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union, Chief of Staff of the State Secretariat for the European Union, Spanish Ambassador to the Czech Republic and Adviser on International Affairs of the European Union and Director-General for the Internal Market and other EU Policies at the State Secretariat for the European Union. His latest position was Secretary General for the European Union.
