Albares concludes round of meetings on the new Spain-Africa Strategy

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, closes the extensive consultation period with a round of meetings on the new Africa Strategy, culminating in a meeting with representatives from the General State Administration and civil society of Spanish foreign policy on the African continent as members of the Africa Round Table.

At today's meeting, which is his second held this year with representatives from civil society organisations, development NGOs, universities, the business sector and the cultural domain, the minister reviewed the opportunities that the document identifies for Africa and for a renewed partnership with Spain.

Albares informed the Africa Round Table that they will remain a key instrument whose role he wishes to strengthen in the new Africa Strategy, after thanking them for their participation, while also emphasising that he counts on them for the implementation of the new strategy.

Thus far in September, Albares has also held two other important meetings before the final text reaches the Council of Ministers’ table. On the one hand, he chaired the inter-ministerial meeting where he outlined the main challenges to be taken on by each Ministry involved in the new Africa Strategy. Just a few days later, he held another meeting with African ambassadors accredited in Spain, to whom he explained that Spain seeks greater cooperation with its African partners based on strengthening partnerships and the principle of mutual respect, and assumes a leading role as the European country closest to Africa.
