In his speech, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation recalled that “in the face of those who wanted less Europe, inside and outside our country, the Spanish Presidency has supported a project that integrates values and conviction, the expansion and deepening of rights, a Europe that is socially and economically prosperous. A Europe that is closer to its citizens”.
Albares also highlighted the “unique and pioneering decentralisation exercise for Spain and for the whole European Union”. “The 464 meetings submitted by the Ministries and Autonomous Communities for the report and the 23 informal ministerial meetings in all the Autonomous Communities -he noted- have taken Spain to Europe, and brought Europe to Spain”. Another of the Spanish Presidency of the Council’s contributions has come through the “Sustainability Plan”, with a firm commitment to a sustainable Presidency, in line with the 2030 Agenda, green transition, inclusion and equality.
The meeting attendees, the heads of different ministries, approved the Presidency Report, drawn up by the Coordination Office of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union. This report sets out the decisions, actions and measures taken for the logistical organisation of the Presidency in order to contribute to the political and social objectives for the six-month period. It also mentions the political and legislative milestones of the Presidency, arranged according to its four priorities, which are to reindustrialise the EU; to advance the green transition; to promote greater social and economic justice; and to strengthen European unity.
