75 YEARS

Anniversary of the Spanish Federal Council of the European Movement

The headquarters of the Cervantes Institute in Paris hosted an event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Spanish Federal Council of the European Movement, an organisation which, in the words of Minister Albares, is "a true reflection of Spanish society, one of the most pro-European on the continent"

February 9, 2024

In his speech, José Manuel Albares emphasised that “the defence of Europe is as important today as it was 75 years ago, when the Spanish Federal Council was founded". He added: “As we approach the second anniversary of Russia's illegal and unjustified aggression against Ukraine, and as international humanitarian law is flagrantly violated in Gaza, we pro-Europeans must step up. Because more of us believe in the protection of human rights, in democracy and in the respect for international law and a rules-based international order. More of us are calling for a project of peace, of prosperity, of expansion of rights for its citizens, and of a sustainable and socially just way of life”.
