José Manuel Albares meets Antony Blinken in Washington

On the other hand, on the first day of his stay in Washington, José Manuel Albares met with the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Ilan Goldfajn, and with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, Michael McCaul. He also visited the headquarters of the German Marshall Fund, a foundation that seeks to strengthen the cooperation ties among transatlantic democracies, keeping alive the memory of the Marshall Plan. In a conversation with its director, Heather Conley, the head of Spanish diplomacy spoke about the global geopolitical situation, Spain's action in response to the main challenges, the transatlantic cooperation and the forthcoming Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

On his second day in Washington, Minister Albares attended a breakfast with US companies at the US Chamber of Commerce, held a meeting with several representatives of OAS member States and met with Bob Menéndez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Thereafter, the Minister attended the ceremony to confer the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabel la Católica to Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, as part of the agenda of President Pedro Sánchez's official visit to the United States.
