Minister visits Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and North Macedonia

José Manuel Albares outlined the main lines of the Spanish Presidency of the EU for the Balkans to the authorities of these countries, conveying Spain's renewed interest in the region and its willingness to support them in their European accession

Serbia was the first stop on José Manuel Albares' trip. In the capital, he met with his counterpart, Ivica Dacic, and with the Minister of European Integration, Tanja Miscevic. He was also received by the President, Aleksander Vucic, and by the Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic​. From Belgrade, the Minister travelled to Sarajevo, where he met with the Prime Minister, Borjana Kristo, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elmedin Konakovic. Minister ​Albares also toured the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, visiting the library that was rebuilt through Spanish Cooperation.

The last stage of the trip began in Tirana, where the head of Spanish diplomacy met with his colleague Olta Xhaçka, and with the Prime Minister, Edi Rama. From the Albanian capital, José Manuel Albares travelled to Skopje to meet with the Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Bojan Maricic, and the head of foreign affairs, Bujar Osmani. 

The tour of the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has led to the signing of a memorandum of understanding with each of the countries visited in order to strengthen collaboration in the European integration process.
