The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation is organising the fourth edition of the “Spain in the World” course in collaboration with the Menéndez Pelayo University (UIMP). The course will take place from 20 to 24 July at the Palacio de la Magdalena in Santander.

The course will bring together academics, foreign policy makers, analysts from international think tanks and emerging voices to discuss the role that Spain and the European Union can play in a more competitive, more fragmented and less predictable world. Bruno Maçães, Pol Morillas, Samir Saran, Elizabeth Sidiropoulos, Matías Spektor, Comfort Ero, Andrea Rizzi, Federico Torres Muro, Alberto Ucelay, Ali Vaez, Marcos Alonso, Jeremy Cliffe, İlke Toygür, Federico Steinberg, Fabian Zuleeg, Andrés Allamand, Valeria Moy and Tristan Aureau are some of the speakers, with the full list to be finalised in the coming days.

The 2026 edition also takes on special significance for Spanish diplomacy. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the European Communities, a milestone that provides an opportunity to reflect on the future of the European project. Likewise, the Ibero-American Summit in Madrid, scheduled for 4 and 5 November, is another key event on Spain’s international agenda. Instability in the Middle East will also feature in the sessions, highlighting the importance of maintaining active and committed diplomacy.

The course will be opened by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, and will feature the participation of the Ministry’s four State Secretaries: Diego Martínez Belío, Fernando Sampedro, Susana Sumelzo and Eva Granados.
