Spanish MFA organises ‘Literary Ibero-America’ exhibition to mark Madrid Summit

Promoted by the AECID, it brings together photographs of literary figures from the twenty-two countries that make up the Ibero-American Community of Nations

Today

The State Secretary for Ibero-America and the Caribbean and for Spanish around the World, Susana Sumelzo, visited the ‘Literary Ibero-America’ exhibition on Madrid’s Paseo de Recoletos, an initiative of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), which reports to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, celebrating the richness, diversity and vitality of literary creation across the twenty-two countries of the Ibero-American community.

The exhibition, which will be open from 21 October until 18 November on the Paseo de Recoletos and at the National Library of Spain, presents a selection of portraits taken by Daniel Mordzinski, regarded as one of the great visual chroniclers of Ibero-American literature, the result of several decades of work alongside writers from across the region.

A journey through the literary heritage of Ibero-America

The exhibition celebrates literature as one of Ibero-America’s most valuable shared cultural heritages. Through images that eschew the formality of official portraits, visitors can discover some of the most influential figures in Ibero-American literature, ranging from world-renowned authors such as Jorge Luis Borges and Gabriel García Márquez to talents who give voice to indigenous culture and reflect the region’s linguistic, cultural and social diversity.

The photographs invite visitors to explore a shared geographical landscape characterised by cultural exchanges, cross-fertilising influences and a long literary tradition that continues to renew itself and enrich the Ibero-American cultural sphere.

Culture to strengthen Ibero-American ties

The exhibition also helps to raise the public profile of the Madrid Ibero-American Summit and to bring the richness of a shared cultural heritage that transcends borders closer to the public.
