The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, closed the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) Summer School this Thursday. It was entitled “The collapse of democracy. An opportunity for a geopolitics at the service of humanity”.
In his address, Albares identified democracy, multilateralism and human rights as the pillars upon which the international order of the coming decades must be built, arguing that “there can be no peace without an unwavering commitment to human rights”. The minister also highlighted Spain’s role as one of the leading advocates of multilateralism, with the United Nations at its heart, recalling the UN Conference held in Seville last year and the recent Conference on Feminist Foreign Policy organised by the Ministry.
Finally, the minister noted that the great challenges of our time compel us to decide what role we wish to play in the world, and that Spain has chosen to do so by upholding firm principles, always placing human dignity at the heart of its actions.
At the closing ceremony, in addition to Minister Albares, speeches were given by the Secretary-General of the Episcopal Conference, César García Magán, and Santiago García-Jalón de la Lama, Rector of the Pontifical University of Salamanca. Jesús Avezuela, Director of the Paul VI Foundation, was also present at the ceremony.
