Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its commitment to intercultural dialogue and peace at the 11th Alliance of Civilizations Forum

The State Secretary for International Cooperation reinforces Spain's commitment to multilateralism and human rights

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation reaffirmed its commitment to intercultural dialogue and peace in Riyadh. It did so at the eleventh Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC) Forum, held on December 14 in the capital of Saudi Arabia, through the message that the State Secretary for International Cooperation, Eva Granados, was responsible for conveying during the opening of this meeting.

Granados, who was part of the Spanish delegation led by the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, participated in the celebrations of the twenty years since the birth of this Forum, focusing on the importance of intercultural dialogue and cooperation to address global divisions, conflicts and diminished confidence in multilateral governance structures.

The State Secretary also made a special appeal to young people to work for the eradication of war and to choose a world of dialogue over division and hatred.  

The meeting was also attended by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres; former Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim; the High Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations, Miguel Angel Moratinos; and Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, as well as other leaders and representatives of international organizations and civil society. 

Bilateral meetings

​​On the margins of the Forum, Granados held a bilateral meeting with the High Representative for the Alliance of Civilisations, where he discussed the importance Spain attaches to the role of the Alliance in defending dialogue, democracy and human rights as a solution to current challenges, highlighting its impetus to the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, fully aligned with the priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. 

On the other hand, Granados also held a meeting with the Deputy Minister Ambassador of Türkiye, Levent Gümrükçü, with the aim of further strengthening relations between the two countries, sharing key strategic interests and working to promote synergies, including in the area of international cooperation.
