The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, met today in Paris with the OECD development cluster to highlight the importance of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, to be held in Seville from 30 June to 3 July, and to encourage participation at the highest level. The Minister also held a bilateral meeting with the Director of the OECD Development Centre, Ragnheidur Elín Árnadóttir.
The objective of the Conference is the adoption of a new financing for development framework, and represents a great opportunity for the international community to drive the mobilisation of policies and resources needed to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
"We need new energy and new tools to foster collective action, transformative change as well as a greater impact", the minister told the cluster, adding, "We need to combine ambition with action. Seville must produce concrete and viable results". In this sense, Albares insisted on the need to be in Seville at the highest level to show commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation.
Development Centre (DEV)
Minister Albares also met bilaterally with the Director of the OECD Development Centre (DEV), Ragnheidur Elín Árnadóttir, whom he thanked for her contribution to the success of Seville.
Specifically, DEV is promoting, with support from Spain, several side events at the Conference, one to promote tax justice and another on development metrics "Beyond GDP".
The DEV is a forum for dialogue on economic and social development policy aimed at enabling countries to share their experiences and contribute expert analysis and studies, such as the Regional Outlook Reports.
Spain defends this approach of partnership and dialogue on equal terms, as demonstrated by the important contributions made in recent years, which places our country as a reference partner for the Centre.
