The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares Bueno, has signed an agreement with the President of Sichuan University to promote the teaching, study and use of Spanish and contribute to the dissemination of culture, as well as other programmes for exchange and collaboration between the Cervantes Institute and Sichuan University.

During the day, Albares also participated in the official reception and subsequent meeting between the President of the Republic, Xi Jinping, and King Felipe VI. He then attended the meeting with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, Zhao Leji, as well as with the Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Li Qiang.

The signing, which took place in Beijing as part of the State visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen to China, comes at a particularly positive moment in bilateral relations between the two countries, in the context of the 20th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Spain and China, which began with the visit of the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to this country last April. Also noteworthy is the meeting held by Minister Albares with his counterpart in October in Hangzhou, where the main bilateral and international issues were reviewed.

During the State visit, a total of ten agreements were signed for cooperation in various areas, such as agriculture, fisheries and food; economy and trade; science and innovation; culture and education.
