March 24, 2023

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has taken part in Open Government Week with several activities that have helped the public better see how this department works.

As well as education centres, the Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings (Spanish acronym: IDAE) was informed of the energy efficiency measures introduced at the headquarters in Plaza del Marqués de Salamanca following the integral reform of the building. Among other innovations, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has been fitted out with sensors able to detect the presence of people in order to turn off the lighting when the offices are empty. Purifiers have also been installed to maintain the air quality, along with smart air conditioning, all with a view to contributing to energy savings.

The Diplomatic School has also taken part in Open Government Week, with meetings at its headquarters led by several public servants on issues of interest regarding public administration.

Lastly, the Directorate-General of Spaniards Abroad and Consular Affairs has held meetings with representatives of companies in the tourist sector, explaining to them the work of the ministerial department in managing emergencies that affect Spaniards abroad. The aim has been to provide information on the work of the Spanish consular network: how it is organised and its functions and instruments to protect and assist Spaniards that travel to or live in other countries.
