Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, invites José Manuel Albares to visit Kiev

The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, has invited his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, to make an official trip to Kiev during a phone call between the two foreign affairs ministers this morning. José Manuel Albares expressed his interest in making such a visit and hopes to set a convenient date for both of them.

February 1, 2022
During the phone call, Dmytro Kuleba and José Manuel Albares addressed the tense situation on the borders with Russia and Belarus over the last few weeks, along with the latest news of the last few hours.

As he did last week in his appearance before the Lower House of Parliament, José Manuel Albares confirmed to his counterpart Spain’s firm commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as to the principle of the peaceful resolution of disputes both as pillars of international law and for the security of Europe.

In this regard, the two ministers referred to the efforts at dialogue taking place within the framework of NATO and the OSCE to move towards a de-escalation of the situation. In particular, José Manuel Albares indicated to his counterpart that diplomacy, dialogue, diffusion and dissuasion are the four ‘Ds’ that guide Spain and the EU’s action in response to the crisis in Ukraine.

This phone call took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Spain and Ukraine. Both ministers undertook to work to further strengthen bilateral ties.
