Spain reaffirms its commitment to the Equal Rights Coalition and to protecting the rights of LGBTI+ people

Today

In the face of setbacks in the rights of LGBTI+ people, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation reiterates its commitment to promoting and protecting the human rights and fundamental freedoms of all people, without distinction of any kind, and to the Equal Rights Coalition, which Spain currently co-chairs.

Despite the progress made in adopting and implementing laws, public policies and institutional measures aimed at guaranteeing equality before the law, preventing and responding to discrimination, and ensuring effective access to rights for all people, significant challenges persist in many parts of the world in relation to discrimination, violence, exclusion and other forms of rights violations that affect LGBTI+ people even more acutely.

Through our foreign policy, and within the various bilateral and multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Human Rights Council and our current co-chairmanship of the Equal Rights Coalition, we continue to promote international cooperation and constructive dialogue between States, international organisations and civil society in order to make progress towards a world in which everyone can live free from violence, discrimination and exclusion.

Spain reaffirms its shared commitment to equality, human dignity and the universality of human rights, fundamental principles for building fairer, more inclusive and more resilient societies.
