Statement on protests in Iran

The Spanish Government condemns the violence against peaceful demonstrators in Iran and demands that the country's authorities respect and guarantee the exercise of freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration.

The Spanish Government calls on the Iranian authorities to immediately lift all restrictions on communications and to put an end to the arbitrary detention of peaceful demonstrators.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring developments in the situation and is in contact with the Embassy in Tehran, which remains fully operational to assist the Spanish community.
