PRESS STATEMENT 073

Spain condemns Israeli Knesset's resolution on Occupied Palestinian Territories

Yesterday
The Spanish Government condemns the motion passed by the Israeli Parliament in favour of the annexation of the West Bank and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Although the vote is not binding, it disregards the fundamental principles and provisions of international law and is contrary to the Advisory Opinion of 19 July 2024 of the International Court of Justice, which determines that the occupation is illegal.

The motion also undermines the basis for the implementation of a two-State solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people, peace in the region and the security of Israel, by ignoring the commitments made by Israel and Palestine since the Madrid Conference and the Oslo Process.

Spain reiterates its condemnation of the expansion of settlements, which are illegal under international law, and of any action aimed at hindering a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Spain renews its call for the release of hostages, the cessation of hostilities and mass entry of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, in line with the principles of international humanitarian law.

Spain reiterates its firm support for the two-State solution as the only way to achieve peace.
