Spain welcomes the agreement on the cessation of hostilities reached on 2 November between the Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF.
The government welcomes the negotiation commitment of the parties and also thanks the African Union for its leadership in the peace talks, as well as the role played by the Republic of South Africa.
Spain urges the spirit and the letter of the agreement to be maintained, which must serve as the first step to restoring basic services and full humanitarian access to the conflict zones to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population. The Government of Spain also hopes that the provisions of the agreement relating to accountability for human rights violations will be fully applied.
Spain reiterates its willingness to support the people of Ethiopia in peacebuilding and in the search for a lasting solution within the framework of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia, with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
