New Special Representative of United Nations Secretary-General for Libya

The Government of Spain congratulates Abdoulaye Bathily on his appointment as the new Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), and wishes him every success in the performance of his duties, offering him its full support and loyal collaboration, as it has to his predecessors in the post.

On this occasion, the Government of Spain acknowledges the efforts and excellent work of the Special Adviser of the Secretary-General for Libya, Stephanie Williams, to find a political solution to the conflict in the country.

The Government of Spain reiterates its determination to continue supporting the people of Libya and the United Nations in its efforts to find a political and definitive solution that guarantees the unity and national reconciliation needed to overcome the political, economic and security crisis Libya is immersed in.
