Attack in Somalia

Spain strongly condemns the brutal attack perpetrated in Somalia by the terrorist group Al Shabaab against the base of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in Ceel Baraf, Middle Shabelle, in which a contingent of soldiers from Burundi was deployed.

The Government of Spain wishes to pass on its sincere condolences to the Government of Burundi and to the families of the deceased, and wishes those injured a speedy recovery.

Spain reaffirms its support for Somalia in the fight against terrorism and also wishes to express its recognition of the efforts of the African Union ad of African countries that take part in ATMIS for contributing to the security of Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
