Violence in East Jerusalem

Statement from Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Governments of Spain, Germany, France and Italy

We are profoundly concerned by the intensification of violence today in East Jerusalem on the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount.

During this special time of religious festivities, we call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, and to avoid violence and any form of provocation, particularly on the Temple Mount, to allow worship in peace and with dignity.

We call for the historical status quo of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem to be maintained and respected, and underline the importance of Jordan’s role in this regard.

We remain actively committed to supporting all the efforts in favour of de-escalation and recall the importance of the two-State solution as the foundation to achieving a just, global and lasting peace.
