Ambassador Moreno atended the presentation of the movie “Society of the Snow" by Spanish film director Juan Antonio Bayona, nominated for the Oscars, held at the Motion Pictures Association Theater in Washington, D.C.
Ambassador Charles Rivkin, CEO of Motion Pictures Associationemphasized the pivotal role of the film industry in shaping culture and extending gratitude to governments for fostering its growth at home and abroad.
Ambassador Moreno highlighted Spain's rich tradition of cinematic excellence, citing Spanish film directors as Juan Antonio Bayona, but also Luis Buñuel and Alejandro Amenábar, among others. She spotlighted Madrid as Netflix's first European hub, producing globally acclaimed content like Money Heist. Ambassador Moreno reaffirmed the Spanish government's commitment to collaborating with the film industry for the advancement of public diplomacy, echoed by Elizabeth Allen, Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs at State Department. Ambassador Andrés Durán of Uruguay expressed gratituted to the film industry and particularly to “Society of the snow" for shedding light on his country. Ruchi Bhowmik, Vice President of Public Policy at Netflix, thanked the Spanish government for its support of the audiovisual sector, a support that has enabled Nexflix to set up its European Production Hub in Madrid.
In a heartfelt video message, film director Juan Antonio Bayona conveyed his appreciation to all involved in the film's creation and the attention it garnered, including at the Academy and their Oscar nominations.
