Trinidad and Tobago, which formed part of the Spanish Crown for some 300 years, is today a vibrant, dynamic, prosperous country, rich in culture and with many tourist attractions.
In 2017 we celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between both nations. This half century of bilateral relations has been marked by good understanding and cooperation, especially in the last few years, where a substantial leap has been observed in terms of a greater presence of Spanish interests in the economic, trade, political and educational fields, leading hence to closer ties.
As close as we feel to Trinidad and Tobago, this is however not the only country in the region with which Spain maintains a close and working relationship. From the Embassy in Port of Spain, we also cast our interests in Guyana, Suriname, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Barbados and Grenada. With each and every one of these nations, we share ideas and projects encompassing different fields such as Sustainable Development, Renewable Energy and Climate Change and Security.

I do not want to miss the opportunity, taking advantage of my recent arrival in Trinidad and Tobago, to convey a message of affection and friendship, not only to the members of the Spanish community, but also to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago, a country with which we have strong historical and cultural ties, and with which we want to strengthen our relations even more.
