The Embassy of Spain in New Delhi safeguards the interests of Spain and its citizens, not only in India, but also in Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

For consular purposes, the territory of India and those four countries is divided into two jurisdictions, one under the responsibility of the Consulate General of Spain in Mumbai and the other under the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi. This map shows those two consular jurisdictions (green, New Delhi; light grey, Mumbai).

The consular jurisdiction of the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi includes Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and a number of States and Union Territories of India: Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Punjab, Bihar, Meghalaya, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Tripura, Haryana, Odisha, Mizoram, Delhi NCR, Sikkim, Lakshadweep Island, Rajasthan, Ladakh, Assam, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

These two consular offices in Mumbai and New Delhi are assisted by a number of Honorary Consulates: Bengaluru (India) and Chennai (India), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Kathmandu (Nepal), Kolkata (India) and Malé (Maldives). Under the delegation from the career consular office either in New Delhi or Mumbai to which they are accountable, the Honorary Consulate carries out some consular tasks: legalization of documents, requests of renewal or expedition of Spanish passport or a letter of safe-conduct. They are always authorized to provide assistance and consular protection to Spanish citizens.
