Those invited, both Spanish and British, came to celebrate the links that unite us. The Spanish community was represented by the main associations and social and business institutions. On the British side, a large number of people from the political, economic and social sector attended.
The event began with the Spanish Ambassador highlighting more than 500 years of common diplomatic history between Spain and the United Kingdom. “Spaniards and British explore the globe laying the foundations of the modern world, today we are full democracies with universal languages, strong economies and diverse societies”, emphasized Ambassador Marco. However, as he warned, these achievements cannot be taken for granted as we are dealing with the Russian invasion of Ukraine posing a serious threat to freedom.
The Secretary of State for Europe of the British Foreign Office praised the friendship ties between the two countries, highlighting the Spanish investment in the United Kingdom. Mr. Leo Docherty reinforced his Government's commitment in deepening bilateral relations. He also highlighted the role of the Spanish and British in defending the international order and democracy in Ukraine.
