The Ambassador highlighted the integration of Spain within the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom within Spain—a reality visible in the daily lives of our citizens, thanks to deep-rooted business, economic, and social ties. "Our relationship is no longer merely a diplomatic dialogue between governments; it is a vibrant, dynamic network composed of families, businesses, and friends," emphasized Emma Aparici, whose speech can be read in full here.
Sir Chris Bryant, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and the event's guest of honour, echoed the Ambassador's sentiments, emphasizing the excellent relations between the Spanish and the British. Citing a passage from the Quijote, the Secretary of State mentioned enjoyment of freedom and democracy in both nations, at a time when these values are globally in decline: “Freedom, Sancho, is one of the most precious gifts that heaven has bestowed upon men; no treasures that the earth holds buried or the sea conceals can compare with it; for freedom, as for honour, life may and should be ventured; and on the other hand, captivity is the greatest evil that can fall to the lot of man."
After the speeches, national anthems, and toasts in honour of the Spanish and British Monarchs, the reception commenced, featuring a selection of Spanish wines, Cavas and culinary products.
