Mr. Martínez, the son of one of the children who arrived on British shores from the Basque Country aboard the SS Havanna, explained the history of BCA UK '37 and its initiatives. The Ambassador pledged to collaborate with the association to keep alive the memory of the children who suffered the consequences of the Spanish Civil War.
The Basque Children's Association of '37 in the United Kingdom (BCA '37 UK) is dedicated to rescuing and circulating the story of the nearly 4,000 boys and girls evacuated from Bilbao in May 1937, who arrived in Southampton on September 23rd 1937.
