The Ambassador recalled the Quixotic allusions in Chislett's title and paid tribute to the British travellers who helped to create the British public's fascination with Spain.

After the Ambassador had spoken, it was William Chislett's turn. He discussed his book with the journalist and former politician Michael Portillo, who is well known for his television travel programmes, many of which have focused on Spain.

“The Curious Impertinents”, published in the Mina de Pasatiempos series by the Cervantes Institute, brings together a collection of monographic essays by the hispanist William Chislett, dedicated to twenty British travellers and chroniclers who helped shape the image — and some of the stereotypes — of Spain.
