Spanish researchers and the Royal Society

The Office for Cultural and Scientific Affairs, in collaboration with the British Spanish Society, organized an event in which Spanish scientists from the Royal Society spoke about their work and the achievements accomplished in the Spanish science in recent decades

The Ambassador highlighted the reputation of Spanish scientists in the United Kingdom and the excellent cooperation between our two countries, as demonstrated by the admission of three Spanish researchers to the Royal Society in 2022: biologist and neuroscientist Óscar Marín Parra, developmental biology specialist Irene Miguel Aliaga, and scientist and Professor Carola García Vinuesa.

José María Robles Fraga, Scientific and Cultural Counsellor, elaborated on the long tradition of scientific collaboration between the United Kingdom and Spain and welcomed the United Kingdom's return to the European Horizon Programme. He also applauded the important role of the organization for Spanish scientists in the United Kingdom, CERU.

The Vice President of the British Spanish Society, Juan Reig, praised the achievements and interactions between the Spanish and British scientific communities, explaining the institution's scholarship programme.

Finally, a panel lead by Anne O'Garra of the Francis Crick Institute, with the participation of Óscar Marín Parra, Irene Miguel Aliaga, and Carola García Vinuesa was held. The three scientists explained their work, highlighting the importance of working in the United Kingdom, which provides them with the necessary resources and conditions for intellectual freedom.
