A tribute to International Brigadier, William Dobriskey

The Embassy hosted a ceremony honoring the memory of William Dobriskey who died in the Battle of Jarama during the Spanish Civil War

The event was attended by Dobriskey's descendants, a delegation from the International Brigades Memorial Trust (a British association dedicated to preserving the memory of the International Brigades), and Almudena Cruz Yabar, Deputy Director General of Democratic Memory at the Ministry of the Presidency.​

Ambassador Aparici presented a certificate recognizing Dobriskey as a victim of the war. Mark Hurley, a descendant of the brigadista, delivered a speech honoring his ancestor's memory. The Ambassador expressed her gratitude to all those who fought alongside the legitimate government of the Republic, and thanked the International Brigades Memorial Trust for its work in preserving the legacy of the brigadistas.

William Dobriskey, also known as Bill Briskey, was born on February 8, 1900, in Bloomsbury, Middlesex. He worked as a bus driver. On December 16, 1936, he arrived in Spain to join the International Brigades. Dobriskey died on February 12, 1937, at the Battle of Jarama.
