Ambassador José Pascual Marco congratulated the “new compatriots,” recognizing the work of the Brigades in their fight for freedom and the efforts of their descendants to keep the memory of these fighters alive. Historian Richard Baxell recalled the life of a brigadista from Manchester who died in the Battle of Brunete. Peter Crome, son of International Brigades member Len Crome, offered words of recognition for the foreign volunteers who fought in the Spanish Civil War and the Spaniards who suffered Francoist repression. Following this, a poem by Flor Cernuda, dedicated to the members of the Lincoln Battalion was recited.
Finally, the Decree 1024/2025 of November 4th was read, granting Spanish nationality to the descendants of foreign volunteers who fought against fascism in the Spanish Civil War on the Republican side.
