“The great Spanish exile of 1823”

​On November the 24th, at the Cervantes Institute, three British academics will talk on this exile of Hispanic liberals in the United Kingdom.​

The 19th Century in Spain represents the struggle of liberalism against absolutism. After the approval of the Constitution of Cádiz of 1812, Spain succumbs to obscurantism and many Spanish liberals take refuge in the United Kingdom in the heat of its vibrant political and cultural life. London then became the hotspot for Spanish-speaking intellectuals from Spain and America.
