Spain chaired the IMO Council

For this reason, the General Secretary of Transport and the General Director of the Merchant Navy visited London.

November 30, 2022

The 128th session of the Council closed with the request that the initiative on the export of grain through the Black Sea be opened to other types of ships and ports in order to prevent the conflict from causing distortions in international maritime transport, as is currently the case.

Similarly, the Council decided to create a Gender Equality Award, condemned the illegal launching of missiles by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and agreed to draw up a new strategic plan 2024-2029, which will serve as a guide for the organization in the future.

The Embassy hosted a reception for the IMO authorities, in which the Ambassador and the General Director of the Merchant Navy showed their commitment to the Organization, vindicating Spain's commitment to the decarbonisation of maritime transport and the well-being of sailors.
