The Spanish Air and Space Force's Expeditionary Air Group (AA-EXP) made a technical stopover in Malaysia from 9 to 13 July while deploying to Australia for its participation in Exercise PITCH BLACK 26.
The deployment, comprising two A330 MRTT aircrafts, one A400M, four Eurofighter jets, and more than 200 personnel, landed at Subang Air Base on the afternoon of 9 July. Upon arrival, the AA-EXP was welcomed by the Air Base Commander Brigadier General Yusri Jamari, together with the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Spain in Malaysia, Alfonso Herrero, and the Defence Attaché to Malaysia, resident in Australia, Navy Captain Ernesto Zarco.
The stopover included a meeting between the Commander of the deployment, Colonel Castro, and the Air Operations Commander of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), Lieutenant General Dato' Masro bin Kaliwon, as well as a guided tour to the A330 MRTT aircraft. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the modern, highly interoperable and technologically advanced capabilities of the Spanish Air and Space Force.
This stopover also highlighted the strong interoperability between the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and the Spanish Air and Space Force (EAE). The close cooperation between the armed forces of both countries strengthens the ties of friendship and mutual understanding, while reinforcing their shared commitment to security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
