Please find the required documents (except the visa fee) in accordance with your type of visa (study visa or study visa for NALCAP). Please include the certificate of your Fulbright grant in your application.
If you have a Fulbright grant and you are a resident in our jurisdiction or study in a center in our jurisdiction, you can submit your study visa application to BLS Visa Application Center or directly to the Visa Office of the Embassy of Spain.
- If you apply through BLS (thus accelerating the process): You must apply in person, by appointment only. You must pay for BLS additional fees, and you must collect the visa in person at the BLS office. - If you apply directly at the Visa Office of the Consular Section of the Embassy (free of charge): You must send your application (with all the required documents, as we do not accept incomplete student visa applications) by postal mail (USPS –United States Postal Service only) to the following address: Embassy of Spain – VISA OFFICE - 2375 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20037. The Consular Section is not responsible for the mailed envelopes. Tracking of mailed items is the sole responsibility of the applicant.

Doctorate Degree Studies
From August 2026, visa applicants pursuing a doctorate degree in Spain will no longer need to apply for a Study visa and will instead apply for a Researcher visa
(RIN code).
Visa applicants pursuing a doctorate (or PhD) in Spain, in accordance with the Spanish Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (MECES), will no longer be considered students for the purpose of obtaining the corresponding visa, instead doctoral students will be considered researchers and will be subject to Article 72 of Law 14/2013, of September 27, on support for entrepreneurs and their internationalization.
Therefore, Prior to applying for the visa, doctoral students must obtain a national research residence permit, in accordance with Article 72.2.b of the aforementioned Law 14/2013, which is processed by the UGECE (Large Companies and Strategic Groups Unit).
