Diplomatic and Official Visas

Please submit the documents to apply for accreditation, official or courtesy visas (only for diplomatic or official passports) at the Consular Section of the Embassy of Spain:

ACCREDITATION & OFFICIAL VISAS (Only for Diplomatic or Official passports)

Required documents

1.- One Application form (National visa application form.pdf): Each applicant must complete and sign a national visa application. It can be filled out electronically or handwritten in capital letters. If the applicant is a minor, one of their parents or a duly accredited representative must sign the application.

2.- One photo: Glued or clipped (not stapled) onto visa application form. Photo specifications:  Passport-size, color photograph, recent (taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance), printed on matte/glossy paper, taken against a white, light, clear, uniform background, facing forward, without dark or reflective glasses, or any garments concealing the applicant’s full oval of the face. 

Photos with a dark background or with objects or people that can be seen behind your head will not be accepted. Photographs of babies must not show any part of the adult holding them. 

3.- Diplomatic or Official passport. Original and one photocopy of the page of the passport that contains biometric data. The passport must be valid, must have a minimum validity period of 3 months after the intended date of exit from Spain and must contain two blank pages for visas. 

4.- One Verbal note or Letter from the US Department of State requiring the accreditation or official visa. 

For accreditation visas: The letter must indicate, among other information:
  • the position (title) in the diplomatic mission in Spain
  • the name of the person the applicant is replacing or if it is a new position
  • the period of time (intended dates) in Spain

In the case of applying for accreditation visas for the immediate family members accompanying the applicant:
  • If the letter of the DoS includes the names of the accompanying family members, it is not necessary to submit copies of the same letter for each family member.
  • If the accompanying family member is an adult child (18 y.o. or older) or a dependent parent: Please add a signed letter from the applicant stating that the relative (name) lives at the same address as the applicant, is economically dependent on the applicant, and will not engage in any lucrative activity during his/her stay in Spain.

Procedure
It is possible to submit the visa application in person or by an official courier.

Decision period: The visa officer will indicate when is possible to pick up the official visa. 
The accreditation visa involves consultations with other authorities that can take from 1 week to 1 month. However, the timeframe to receive a resolution may be longer.

COURTESY VISAS (Only for Diplomatic or Service passports)

Required documents

It can be filled out electronically or handwritten in capital letters. If the applicant is a minor, one of their parents or a duly accredited representative must sign the application.

2.- One photo: Glued or clipped (not stapled) onto visa application form. Photo specifications:  Passport-size, color photograph, recent (taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance), printed on matte/glossy paper, taken against a white, light, clear, uniform background, facing forward, without dark or reflective glasses, or any garments concealing the applicant’s full oval of the face.

3.- Diplomatic or Service passport. Original and a photocopy of the page or pages of the passport that contain biometric data. The passport must be valid, must have a minimum validity period of 3 months after the intended date of exit from Spain and contain two blank pages for visas. Passports issued more than 10 years ago will not be accepted.  

4.- One Verbal note requiring the courtesy visa, indicating the name and position of the applicant and the purpose and intended dates of the trip.

5.- Photocopy of the valid US accreditation visa and/or US accreditation card.

6.- Fingerprints. The applicant must come in person to the Consular Section to take the fingerprints. 
Applicants under 12 y.o. and applicants whose fingerprints have been taken in the last 59 months are exempt from fingerprint taking. However, in the latter case, if the applicant's prints are of poor quality, the Consular Office will request to have their fingerprints retaken.

The courtesy visa can involve consultations with other authorities that can usually take from 1 to 2 weeks. However, the timeframe to receive a resolut​ion may be longer.
