Enrique Criado Navamuel (Madrid, 1981) studied Law at the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Vienna.
He is a qualified lawyer, writer, and diplomat. He speaks fluently Spanish, English, French and German.
Before his current post as Consul General of Spain in Melbourne, he served as Consul General in Frankfurt and was posted to the Spanish embassies in Kinshasa, Canberra, and Sofia. In Madrid, he held positions at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence.
He is the author of two travel narrative books, Cosas que no caben en una maleta [Things That Don't Fit in a Suitcase] (Aguilar, Penguin Randomhouse 2016) and El paraguas balcánico [The Balkan Umbrella] (Aguilar, Penguin Randomhouse 2019), and the co-author of Muchas vidas y un destino [Many Lives and One Destiny] (Sial Pigmalión, 2020) and Ciudades lejanas: Asia y Oceanía [Distant Cities: Asia and Oceania] (Cuadernos del Laberinto, 2022). His most recent work is the novel El balcón del Führer [The Führer's Balcony] (Editorial Funambulista, 2024), an international espionage thriller.
He has been awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Civil Merit (2012), the Officer's Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (2018), and the Military Aeronautical Merit Cross with White Distinction (2021).
Enrique is married and the father of two children. He maintains a presence on X (formerly Twitter) through the account @ECriadoNavamuel, as time and circumstances permit.
