Urgent notice regarding Spanish nationality: Democratic Memory Law

​​October 22, 2025, is the deadline for applying for Spanish nationality under the Law of Democratic Memory.​

October 22, at 11:59 p.m. (local time) is the deadline for applying for an appointment. 

Therefore: 

1. As of October 23, the online appointment system will close. 

2. If you applied for an appointment through the online appointment system, and you received an appointment request confirmation with an electronic signature (Secure Verification Code or CSV), you will be able to submit your documents in person after October 22. In due course, you will receive your credentials to fix your appointment online at a date that suits you. 

3. If you applied for an appointment as described in section 2 and received a message rejecting your appointment request, then you must reapply for an appointment through the same online system Solicitud de cita previa para la nacionalidad española por la Ley de Memoria Democrática before October 22, at 11:59 p.m.  

4. If you applied for an appointment by email or letter and were not been able to obtain an appointment by October 22, you must apply for an appointment through the computer system Solicitud de cita p​revia para la nacionalidad española por la Ley de Memoria Democrática​ before October 22, at 23:59 p.m., in order to obtain the appointment request confirmation with an electronic signature.

5. The appointment request confirmation with electronic signature (with a secure verification code or CSV) is essential in order to submit the documents in person from October 23 onwards.

6. We strongly advise you to keep access to your email address and to check it frequently, including the junk mail or spam folder, for any notification from the Consulate.

7. Please, note that there may be delays in sending you the credentials for obtaining the in-person appointment, and in the decision on the files, due to the high number of applications received, which we process according to the date of submission.
