Visa for people over 18 years of age who intend to carry out a self-employed work activity in Spain.

All foreign documents must be presented legalized or apostilled, and if they are prepared in a language other than Spanish, accompanied by the corresponding translation.

Visa documents:

  1. National visa application form. (download ) Se abre en ventana nueva Each applicant will complete in all its sections and sign a visa application.

  2. Photography. A recent photograph, passport size, in color, with a light background, taken from the front, without dark glasses, reflections, or garments that hide the oval of the face.

  3. Valid and unexpired passport. Original and a photocopy of the page or pages with biometric data of the passport. . The passport must be valid for at least one year and have two blank pages. Passports issued more than 10 years ago are not accepted.

  4. Criminal record certificate. Applicants must submit the original and a copy of the criminal record certificate issued by the country or countries of residence within the last 5 years.


    Please note that the Certificate of No Criminal Conviction must be issued within 6 months.

    For CNCC application in Hong Kong, the ​HK Police requires a referral letter from the Consulate or related foreign Authorities. You may send us the followings by email for requesting a referral letter:

    ​Note: Please apply for the CNCC in advance as the processing time for HK CNCC usually takes 4 weeks. ​



  5. Medical certificate. Original and a copy of a medical certificate attesting that the applicant does not suffer from diseases that may have serious repercussions on public health in accordance with the International Health Regulations 2005.

    Foreign documents must be legalized or apostilled and, where applicable, must be submitted together with an official translation into Spanish. 

  6. Proof of residence in the consular demarcation: Hong Kong / Macau Residence Permit

  7. Payment of the visa fee (in HK Dollars, by cash or FPS​). The visa fee is of an amount equivalent to 90 euros.
    For nationals of Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, the United States of America and the United Kingdom different rates are applied for reasons of reciprocity. In these cases, the amount of the fee must be consulted with the Consular Office. 


When necessary to assess the application, the Consular Office may request additional documents or data and may also summon the applicant to a personal interview.

Documents relating to the application for a Residence Permit:

  • Application form for initial residence permit and self-employment. Each applicant must complete and sign two copies of the application form in all its sections (model EX-07)Se abre en ventana nueva

  • Passport. A photocopy of all pages of the valid and unexpired passport or travel document.

  • Authorisations and licences for activity. List of the authorisations or licences required for the installation, opening or operation of the planned activity or for professional practice, indicating the status of the procedures for obtaining them. The application certificates must be attached to the corresponding bodies.

  • Training and professional qualification. Original and a copy of the documents proving that they have the training and, where appropriate, the professional qualification legally required for the exercise of the profession.

  • Establishment or activity project. Project of establishment or activity to be carried out, with an indication of the planned investment, its expected profitability and, where appropriate, the jobs whose creation is envisaged.

  • Economic means. Original and a copy of the documents that prove that the applicant has sufficient economic means to make the planned investment or with the commitment to support financial institutions or others.

  • Payment of fees. To pay the fees ​at the Consular Office, you must complete in all its fields and sign two copies of form 790 code 052, section 2.1 (initial temporary residence permit) Se abre en ventana nueva and form 790, code 062, section 1.5 (self-employment permits) Se abre en ventana nueva(download ) Se abre en ventana nueva

    Fees can also be paid online, through the links to forms 790-052 and 790-062. In this case, proof of payment obtained through the same website must be attached.

    Ibero-American, Filipino, Andorran, Equatoguinean, Sephardic and Spanish-born and Spanish-born Spanish nationals are exempt from paying this fee.

Procedure:

  1. Legitimate subject: Applications for a visa and initial residence and self-employment permit must be submitted personally by the interested party. The presentation may be made by a duly accredited representative when this is provided for in Spanish regulations and in European Union law.

  3. Proof of receipt: The Consular Office will give the interested party a copy of the application forms, as well as the receipts for the payment of the fees. The application file for residence and self-employment will be sent to the competent Immigration Office. The latter has a period of 3 months to resolve from the day following the date of receipt of the application. If this period has elapsed without a response, it will be understood that the application has been rejected.   4. Additional requirements: The Consular Office may ask the applicant to present the missing documents, or to provide additional documents or data that are necessary to resolve the application. It may also summon the applicant to a personal interview.

  5. Deadline for resolving the visa application: The legal deadline for making a decision is 1 month from the receipt of the resolution of the residence and self-employment permit. The Consular Office will also notify the applicant of the resolution issued by the competent Government Delegation or Sub-delegation.

  6. Collection of the visa: The visa must be collected personally by the interested party, without the need for an appointment.

  7. Refusal of the visa: Where appropriate, the refusal of the visa will always be notified in writing, stating the reasons on which the decision is based.

  8. Appeals: In the event of a visa refusal, the applicant may lodge an appeal for reconsideration with this Consular Office within 1 month from the day following the date on which he or she receives notification of the refusal. You can also file a contentious-administrative appeal with the High Court of Justice of Madrid within 2 months from the day following the date on which you receive the notification of refusal of the visa or dismissal of the appeal for reconsideration.

  9. Visa validity: The visa will be valid for 365 days. Once in Spain, the worker must be affiliated to Social Security within 3 months and before the start of work and must apply for the Foreigner Identity Card at the competent Police Station, within 1 month of registration with Social Security.
