The EU-Asia Documentary Festival Returns!

Organised by the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao, with the support of the Consulates-General of the EU Member States, Switzerland, and Uruguay, in collaboration with Broadway Cinematheque, the EU-Asia Documentary Festival is back!

From 22 July to 9 August 2026, we invite you to experience 13 outstanding documentaries from Europe. These thought-provoking films, which all have their HK premiere at our festival, explore a wide range of themes, ranging from environmental protection to human rights, youth empowerment, mental health, gender equality, and resilience in the face of war. You will also again have the chance to discover four equally inspiring documentaries from Asia - from Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Korea.

The EU-Asia Documentary Festival opens with irish documentary “Gealtra", which follows a group of passionate teenagers from The Kabin Studio, a youth-led creativity hub, as they embark on a journey to explore their identities through music, poetry, and the Irish language.

To highlight the European Union's unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russia's ongoing illegal and unprovoked war of aggression, we are happy to again include a powerful Ukrainian film. In “Traces", we encounter remarkable Ukrainian women who survived conflict-related sexual violence and refuse to remain silent. Furthermore, the French film “Ukraine: Life despite everything" is a testament to the collective exhaustion, fierce resistance, and human endurance of the brave Ukrainian people.

We warmly invite you to immerse yourself in these extraordinary stories from Europe and Asia! Allow the documentaries to inspire, move, and challenge you!
