State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs

Diego Martínez Belío was appointed State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs at the Council of Ministers held on 19 December 2023.

He holds a Law degree from the Complutense University (Madrid) and the Sorbonne University (Paris) and a Diploma in Advanced Studies (DEA) in International Economic Law from the Sorbonne University. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 2007.

Since July 2021, he has been the Director of the Cabinet of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. He used to be Director of the Cabinet of the State Secretary for the European Union. Previously, he had been an advisory member of the Department of European Affairs and G20 in the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government.

Overseas, he has been posted as second-in-command at the Spanish Embassy in Equatorial Guinea and as Deputy Consul of Spain in Casablanca.

Prior to entering the diplomatic service, he practiced as a corporate lawyer in Miami, Madrid and Paris.​
