April 4, 2024
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, stressed the importance of this ministerial meeting in which the allies reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine, and he referred to the threats from the Southern Flank to NATO allies, stating that Spain “will spare no effort to ensure that peace returns to Europe, that stability is restored in Europe and, of course, that the most elementary and basic principles of the United Nations Charter are complied with, such as respect for territorial integrity, respect for the sovereignty and sovereign equality of all States and also the abolition of war as a way of resolving conflicts between States”.

On the sidelines, the Minister met with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, to whom he reiterated Spain's support for Ukraine until peace is re-established and the war of aggression ends. He also held meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Montenegro, Portugal, Estonia and Slovenia, among others.
