Meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers in Brussels

José Manuel Albares took part in the NATO ministerial meeting that began preparations for the upcoming Washington Summit and addressed the situation in Ukraine, the Western Balkans and the Southern Flank.

According to the head of Spanish diplomacy, this gathering of NATO Ministers for Foreign Affairs in Brussels has confirmed the unity and strength of the Atlantic Alliance, which is about to celebrate its 75th anniversary. 

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation met with his UK counterpart, David Cameron, mainly to discuss the negotiations on Gibraltar. In this regard, Minister Albares stated that in the agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom on Gibraltar "we are so close, with just a few specific aspects left to work on". 

Furthermore, José Manuel Albares held a conversation with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, to whom he reiterated Spain's firm commitment to the defence of peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine; as well as our country’s support for the opening of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
