“In these critical times,” he said, “a regional spillover of the conflict must be avoided at all costs. Our first objective must be to maintain peace and stability in the West Bank and Lebanon. The situation in Lebanon, a fragile country, is particularly concerning”. Albares added that: “We will only succeed in ending a tragedy that has been repeated too many times before if we can finally achieve the two-State solution for Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security. This requires a definitive agreement, in accordance with the agreements already signed and the parameters negotiated since the Madrid peace conference”.

During their stay in Strasbourg, José Manuel Albares - as part of the Presidency of the Council - and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, signed six important laws for the European Union, including to protect geographical indications of crafts and industrial products, and on renewable energies. Finally, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation took part in the meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO) to present the institutional priorities of the Spanish Presidency as it reaches its halfway point.
